2024 Haven Walker Music Scholarship Deadline Extended to January 31

The Haven Walker Music Scholarship Fund has recently announced an extension of the deadline for its 2024 music scholarships to January 31, providing aspiring musicians in the Flagstaff area with additional time to apply.

Designed to support eighth- through 11th-grade students facing financial hardships, the scholarships aim to facilitate music education by covering the costs of lessons and the purchase or rental of instruments. This year, five awards of $1,500 each are available to local students within the specified grade levels or those who have previously received scholarships. The evaluation process emphasizes musical talent and a demonstrated commitment to the art of music.

Dulce Armijo, a 2022 scholarship recipient, expressed the profound impact of the scholarship on her musical journey, stating, “Obtaining this scholarship allowed me to surpass that burden and take multiple steps forward in my musical career.” Armijo eagerly anticipates the scholarship’s continued progression in assisting gifted musicians who may share similar financial challenges, enabling them to unlock their full musical potential.

Managed by the Flagstaff Music Festival, the scholarship fund is now in its third year and was established in collaboration with Bob and Pina Miller in memory of their son, Haven Walker.

In a heartfelt announcement, the Millers shared, “Haven was an amazing musician, son, father, and friend to all. His untimely passing has us mourning still, but his legacy will continue through this new scholarship fund. We encourage musicians of all ethnicities, beliefs, and genders to apply, as Haven loved you all.”
